Bondi Resort Blog

Come on into our Blog for a look at the wonderful world we've got to share! With over 240 hectares (600 acres) of wilderness woodlands surrounding the resort, just ten minutes from Algonquin Park, we feature over 400 metres (1200’) of waterfront and beach; boat rentals; summer hiking trails winding through fields and woods; 20 km. of groomed cross country ski trails and snowshoeing in winter; access to nearby snowmobile trails for sledders, and a toboggan hill for the young at heart.

Taking Flight

This weather is too good to waste indoors. With the lake almost a flat calm, the sky cloudless, and the sun warm, Brian couldn't resist getting out the Piper PA-11 float plane for the first flight of the year.
After a few laps around the bay to run pre-flight checks and warm up the engine, it was up, up and away...

I love watching float planes take off. First they send up a backwash of wind and water, then they lift onto the 'step' of the pontoons, then there is a slight left/right shift as the pontoons come free of the water and the plane leaves the lake.
Our father, Paul, was an avid bush pilot, and evidently the gene got passed along. These are the small, tough planes that helped to build the country.
You really haven't seen the country until you've seen it from one of these planes. The amount of water and forest and rock out there is truly impressive. This time of year, in particular before the leaves come out, everything is easy to see on the ground, from wildlife to the barracks being built for the G8!
