Bondi Resort Blog

Come on into our Blog for a look at the wonderful world we've got to share! With over 240 hectares (600 acres) of wilderness woodlands surrounding the resort, just ten minutes from Algonquin Park, we feature over 400 metres (1200’) of waterfront and beach; boat rentals; summer hiking trails winding through fields and woods; 20 km. of groomed cross country ski trails and snowshoeing in winter; access to nearby snowmobile trails for sledders, and a toboggan hill for the young at heart.

Stitches in Time

The Township of Lake of Bays Heritage Committee was given an old quilt recently, by Jean Hood, who's family lived at North Portage.  It dates back to probably the 1920's --we are still finalizing the year, based on the names (which include charming details like "Baby Winterbottom", who was evidently too young to have been christened, but was present enough in the community to have been included in the quilt!)

Stitched into the quilt are the names of the settlers at both North and South Portage.

The Committee has been working to get the quilt repaired so that it can be framed and put on display -- we're not sure where, since it is BIG and will need a large wall!

We find it fascinating...   and we think many of the visitors and residents in the township will as well.  Here's a sneak peak at it, and at two of the many panels with names stitched in..

  1. It does look quite big!

Displaying it might be quite an issue... I imagine environmentally speaking, it might have to be stored in a case.
