Bondi Resort Blog

Come on into our Blog for a look at the wonderful world we've got to share! With over 240 hectares (600 acres) of wilderness woodlands surrounding the resort, just ten minutes from Algonquin Park, we feature over 400 metres (1200’) of waterfront and beach; boat rentals; summer hiking trails winding through fields and woods; 20 km. of groomed cross country ski trails and snowshoeing in winter; access to nearby snowmobile trails for sledders, and a toboggan hill for the young at heart.

Bird Be Safae

These are the BirdBeSafe collars that the 'kids' are wearing to help keep them from being able to catch birds.
The vivid colours alert the birds better than a bell.  Audobon recommends them, citing that they can reduce bird-kill
by over 80%.  And since that's a big number, and since we love our birds, but also love our cats (although some days we are not sure why with the latter as they dismantle the house) we are 'test driving' these collars.
So far, they have definitely been successful.  And the cats think they look quite 'fashion forward'.

Mergansers

We only get to see the 'boys' in their glory at this time of year.  Later in the summer they will have exchanged these spectacular white feathers for something far less flashy.

Up close

People are very familiar with the autumn colours of the sugar maple trees.  But have you ever taken a closer look at them in spring?  They bloom, with tiny red flowers.  Spectacular in a less showy fashion than the autumn glory, but still extraordinarily lovely.  Because the blossoms are so far up in the tree, it is often hard to get a close look at them.  Luckily, the tree at Sunflower cottage was agreeable to letting me get a close up.

Visitors

a selection of photos from my bird feeders this past month.  At this time of year, the birds are coming back, and we get new species passing through or dropping in for the entire season.  It is a wonderful time.  How many of these beauties have you checked off your birder list?

First Swimmers!

I knew I could count on these kids to make a big splash this weekend at Bondi Village Resort. When they are here in the summer they are rarely OUT of the lake! Speaking of summer, we still have some weeks available -- don't miss out on the chance to make magical family memories!

April 28, the Frogs start Singing

During the thunderstorm last night the spring frogs were trilling like crazy

I've been posting videos on our Facebook Page, https://www.facebook.com/BondiVillageResort/ because it's been easier from my new phone...   But that shouldn't stop you from enjoying the sounds of a Muskoka evening!

The neighbours were whooping it up this evening. It started with the wild turkeys gobbling on the hill and was followed by the trilling and peeping frogs, barred owls and loons. Choir choir choir has nothing on these songsters. You'll need the volume up though😎🐾🐸🦃🦉
